The renovation of the former Chameleon Club in downtown Lancaster city into new student housing and classroom space for the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design is being aided by a $400,000 grant from the High Foundation.
The newly announced grant is helping PCAD’s $8.5 million plan to make a creative hub out of the former 223 N. Water St. club that will include instructional space for the live experience design major, for which students at the four-year college could start taking classes last fall. The renovation will also create new student housing as well as a commercial space for the college on the Prince Street side of the building.
“We are excited to support the ongoing vibrancy of the creative workforce and the economic impact the arts and culture bring to our downtown communities here in Lancaster,” said Robin Stauffer, executive director of the High Foundation. “The arts act as a powerful economic engine for the city and our region.”
